Sky Lantern Safety & User Instructions

Please read these instructions completely before using the product.

Sky lanterns involve an open flame and should be handled carefully and responsibly. Laws and regulations regarding sky lanterns vary by state, county, municipality, and other local jurisdiction.

Before use, check all applicable local laws, fire restrictions, weather conditions, and aviation restrictions. Use this product only where legally permitted.

Before You Begin

Choose a large, open outdoor area away from:

  • Buildings and homes

  • Trees and dry vegetation

  • Power lines and utility infrastructure

  • Roads and traffic

  • Airports and aircraft operations

  • Fuel, chemicals, and other flammable materials

  • Areas subject to fire restrictions or burn bans

Do not use during windy, dry, or otherwise hazardous conditions.

Keep water or an appropriate fire-extinguishing method readily available.

This product should be handled by responsible adults and kept away from children.

Step 1: Inspect the Lantern

Carefully remove the lantern from its packaging and gently unfold it.

Inspect the paper, frame, and other components before use.

Do not use a lantern that is torn, damaged, improperly assembled, or otherwise appears unsafe.

Step 2: Add Your Message

If desired, use an appropriate marker to write a wish, name, message, or meaningful words on the paper surface.

Take care not to tear or damage the lantern while writing.

Step 3: Prepare the Lantern

Follow the instructions supplied with the product to properly prepare the lantern and its fuel component.

Keep your hands, clothing, hair, packaging, dry vegetation, and other combustible materials away from the flame and heat source.

Never leave an active flame unattended.

Step 4: Check Conditions Before Release

Before proceeding, confirm that:

  • Use is permitted under applicable local laws and regulations

  • There are no active fire or burn restrictions

  • Weather conditions are suitable

  • The surrounding area is clear of buildings, trees, power lines, and other obstacles

  • You are sufficiently far from airports and aircraft operations

  • There are no nearby combustible or hazardous materials

Do not proceed if conditions are uncertain or unsafe.

Important Safety Precautions

  • Use only outdoors and where legally permitted.

  • Never use indoors or inside enclosed spaces.

  • Do not use during windy conditions.

  • Do not use during dry, drought, or elevated fire-risk conditions.

  • Do not use during an active burn ban or fire restriction.

  • Keep away from buildings, trees, power lines, vehicles, dry vegetation, and combustible materials.

  • Never use near airports or in areas where the product could interfere with aircraft operations.

  • Keep an appropriate fire-extinguishing method nearby.

  • Do not leave an active flame unattended.

  • Do not use a damaged lantern.

  • Do not modify the lantern or its fuel component.

  • Do not attempt to relight a lantern after the flame has gone out.

  • Do not force, throw, or propel a lantern that does not operate as intended.

  • Keep the product, fuel component, matches, and lighters away from children.

  • Responsible adult handling is required.

If the Lantern Does Not Operate Properly

Do not throw, force, or otherwise attempt to make the lantern airborne.

If the lantern does not operate as intended, discontinue use and follow the included instructions for safely extinguishing and disposing of the product.

Do not attempt to reuse a damaged or previously extinguished lantern.
